TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT

“The young man who rings the bell at a house of prostitutes is unconsciously looking for God!” Marshall

Good morning sir!

Welcome to day 17!  Join me in prayer today:  Lord, my soul yearns for You O God, as the deer pants for the water brooks!  My soul thirsts for You, O God, for the living God!  Come and quench my thirst with Yourself.  (Psalm 42) Lord, may I rest fully in You today!  Amen!

I hope I didn’t offend anyone with the above quote.  But I think there is a truth in there, that our heart is on a hunt.   We are all on a search to find that ‘something’ or ‘someone’ that will quench our thirst.  Give us meaning.  And even though it is illusive, we really believe that we’re getting close to finding it.  But just like Augustine said: Our hearts are restless till they find rest in Him!  And so until our heart is at rest in Him, our ‘looking for God’ will take us to places where we should never be.  Or it will draw us to do things we should never do.  A restless heart is a danger.

At the retreat, Pastor Paul reminded us: “That which comes out of the person, that is what defiles the person. That’s where all those lurking sins come from:  “For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander.  Matthew 15:20

We either get Him in our hearts or we have a lot of stuff in our heart that defiles us.  I love this quote from C.S. Lewis: “God designed the human machine to run on Himself. He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn, or the food our spirits were designed to feed on. There is no other.”

Lord, I declare that I will ‘Trust in You O LORD, and I will do good; I will dwell in Your land and feed on Your faithfulness!”  Psalm 37:3. Lord, help me to ‘put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts!’ Romans 13:14 Amen!
